PADLET || WEEK 8
I started using Padlet when I was in UiTM Dengkil in 2018 as my Grammar lecturer used it as a platform of teaching. The lecturer would explain the lesson while the students are referring to the notes on Padlet. We had always referred to Padlet for notes and exercises. No worries, we had our class at a computer lab. Hence, there was no problem in accessing the platform. I find it very convenient as a student due to the fact that I can always refer back to the notes and exercises as I finished the class. Thankfully, I have no difficulties using it since I met with Padlet again in EDU456 class.
What is Padlet ?
What is Padlet ?
Padlet is an application to create an online bulletin board that you can use to display information for any topic. It is basically an online virtual “bulletin” board, where students and teachers can collaborate, reflect, share links and pictures, in a secure location. In fact, it is free and very easy to use! It works like a piece of paper and you can put whatever you like on it. Drag in a video, record an interview, snap a selfie, write your own text posts or upload some documents, and voilĂ ! A padlet is born.
How to get started ?
- Go to padlet.com
- Sign in or sign up with a new account.
- Click on the button "Make a padlet".
- Choose the design options of your padlet including your title, description, layout, wallpaper, icon etc. and click “Next” after you have chosen everything to your liking.
- Select your padlet’s privacy setting and the privileges that other users with access will have on your padlet. Click “Next” once you are finished.
- Now click “Start posting” and you are ready to begin.
- Click the “+” button or double click anywhere on the padlet to begin posting. You can also drag and drop files onto the padlet or paste from the clipboard.
- Hit the “Padlet” icon in the top left of the screen if you wish to return to the homepage or change padlets if you are signed into an account.
- Voila! You're good to go!
I've recorded a tutorial video on how to use Padlet as a Teaching and Learning tool.
EDUCATOR :- Extremely easy to use.
- Able to share material with students in many forms (documents, videos, link, etc.)
- Helps in assessing the learning of the students in the class.
- Receive feedback on the students' work, as well as look back at their previous work to identify progress.
- Create a creative and interactive way of learning.
- Able to gather students' work in one place; systematically.
- Encourage the students to interact with the educator.
STUDENTS :
- Easy to access the dashboard quickly even out of class anytime and anywhere (refer notes and exercises)
- Share unique ideas in class or home group research session with classmates or friends.
- Have the opportunity to show their creative work with other class fellows by placing it on Padlet wall.
- Get more excited to participate in class as it is different from the traditional way of learning.
- Have more courage and confidence discussing complex topics with the educator and classmates.
- Help students in sharing knowledge on critical areas of the topic.
- Easily track current and upcoming class assignment’s topics and their due dates.
In conclusion, I profoundly believe that Padlet is one of the great platforms of Web 2.0 that can be used as a teaching and learning tool. It is easy to use and accessible for everyone anytime, anywhere, by using any devices. Teachers and students can interact and provide feedback immediately, in which it promotes discussion among students. It also promotes autonomous learning by providing opportunities for students to take more control of their learning. All in all, Padlet can provide a really diverse learning experience for educators and students.
