QUIZLET || WEEK 10

For the last Web 2.0 that can be used as a teaching and learning tool, I've decided to 'talk' about Quizlet. Honestly, I had never used Quizlet before. I just started to know about this spectacular Web 2.0 from my friends this year. And it has never been the same... Quizlet is such a great web-app for education, especially for students. It is definitely helpful for me to study and memorize certain subjects. Without further ado, let's get in deeper.

What is Quizlet ?

You might think it is related to quizzes. Unfortunately, you are wrong. Quizlet is a free website providing learning tools for students, including flashcards, study and game modes. It was created by high school sophomore Andrew Sutherland in 2005 to help him ace a French vocabulary test. He aced it. And shared it with his friends. Who started acing their tests. And now, more than a decade later, 50 million students and learners use Quizlet every month for everything from math tests to medical exams.

Quizlet’s mission is to help students and teachers practice and master what they’re learning. In Quizlet, information is organized into “study sets” that users like teachers or students add to their accounts. When using Quizlet, students log in and choose the appropriate study set for the concepts they need to review. These can be created by a teacher or generated by other users. Because of the flexibility and customization available, Quizlet can be used in any grade level and any type of class.

How to get started?
  1. Go to quizlet.com
  2. Sign up or sign in into your account.
  3. Choose a package or just continue as a free user.
  4. Find study materials that complement the lesson content.
  5. Create your own sets by adding custom terms, images and audio to share with the students.
  6. Share it to the students by share the link or creating a class.
  7. Play Quizlet Live to get every student engaged.
  8. Track student progress.
I've recorded a tutorial video on how to use Quizlet as a teaching and learning tool.

As a conclusion, Quizlet is definitely a great Web 2.0 to be used as a teaching and learning tool. It provides flashcards and study games for students and covers every possible subject, such as language, math and science, art and literature, and so on. It can be the best place to play educational games, memorize vocabulary and study online. For teachers, it can be an alternative tool to develop materials in a certain subject, such as vocabulary. For learners, it can be a means of developing their skills in a certain subject, such as language, organization and collaboration skills, and creative thinking. In short, the benefits of using Quizlet in education is very remarkable and very recommended to be used in our education system.
